Swiss Skeli & La Catrina in Bernese Costumes
Swiss Skeli & La Catrina in Bernese Costumes
Here we see Swiss Skeli & La Catrina in a typical Bernese Sunday costume, worn by the Bernese on festive occasions. It has remained practically unchanged since the second half of the 19th century.
The women wears a black smock and velvet bodice. Under it, a white shirt, pleated in the front and a silk damask or changeant taffeta apron. A black velvet cap with a horsehair starched spread veil completes the look.
The men wear a so called “Mutz”. The Mutz is made of smooth velvet and trimmed with a red astrakhan braid, parallel to it a narrow white braid.
